Balancing a dish

    Hey! Im new Here!

How do you approach a dish when every component works well on its own, but once everything is plated together the result feels too heavy, flat, or unbalanced?

Do you usually start by adjusting acidity, fat, salt, temperature, or texture? Or do you prefer removing an element first and seeing how the dish changes? I’m especially interested in how you evaluate this during menu development, when every component seems technically correct but the dish still doesn’t quite work as a whole.

    hi Beca

I’d probably start by taking something away rather than adding more. Sometimes you have a few good elements on the plate, but together they’re just doing too much. I usually taste everything together and check the acidity first, then salt, texture and temperature. Quite often a little acidity is enough to bring the dish back to life. And if it still feels too busy, I simplify it. Less is often better.
