Who is Aryan Jafri?
A well-traveled pastry chef and baker inspired by the flavors of her home and the various countries where she has lived
Aryan Jafri started her career in 2017 when she completed the Diplome de Patisserie the Le Cordon Bleu London, where she learned basic and advanced French techniques. She gained work experience in various hotels, restaurants, including fine dining, and eventually in bakeries where she completely fell in love with every aspect of the job. In 2022 she moved to Copenhagen to learn the Danish way of baking, using the freshest Danish ingredients. She became head baker at Kafeteria SMK, in the national art museum of Denmark, where she experimented with her style, using flavors inspired by her home in Pakistan, and various countries where she has lived.
Through this job she met her business partner Fintan, and they opened Høst Bageri, with a focus on local, sustainable ingredients and close relationships with their suppliers. The flour was milled fresh just 15 minutes away from the bakery. Fruits, vegetables, milk and cheese came from a farm just 18 minutes away.
Working with freshly milled flour required the constant adjustment of recipes based on each batch of flour, which is something that Aryan loves teaching other bakers to do. Truly understanding her ingredients is her secret to maximising flavour and texture, no matter where she is living and buying her produce from.
