A day in the beehives (Cake for Pilar)

That’s what I called this Chocolate Layer Cake with Cheese and Cream Frosting that I made some time ago to give to my niece.

I was inspired by her beehives, the white stucco of the whitewashed farmhouse a little “old” and the collected honey dripping from the spoon (that golden chocolate). With a height of 18 cms plus the chocolate decoration also simulating the honeycomb.

I remember it was the second time I tempered chocolate and the first time I used an airbrush to paint it. Here there were no molds, the chocolate once tempered, I spread it on a strip of bubble wrap and once cooled I removed it carefully. I also used that plastic to make the drawing of the cake.

I had a lot of fun making a design from the heart. My niece, who is like a daughter to me, loved it. It was a very special birthday.

I wanted to share it with you for a long time❤

Maloles, thank you for bringing us this marvel full of history and love, it is a work that goes beyond pastry!
The concept behind “A Day in the Hives” is executed with great sensitivity. The height and proportion are very well achieved, and the airbrush work adds a layer of complexity that surprises even more.

The white stucco has a lot of intention, but there are areas where the frosting could be smoothed a little more to highlight the contrast between rustic and polished. Sometimes a little touch up makes all the difference.

would you like to go deeper into creative decorating or chocolate techniques? Because this work already shows that you have a great aesthetic and technical intuition growing.

Thank you for sharing something so personal and special. It is a luxury to accompany you on this path where the technical and the emotional intertwine so well.❤

@sussan_scoolinaryteam Thank you Sussan. It was a long time ago, when I was not yet with you, nor did I know anything about gastronomic photography, or anything. But I made it with a lot of love.

Yes, what you say about smoothing the frosting has an explanation and is that I did it that way with the intention of emulating the wall of the farmhouse something old where the lime has its breaks and is not smooth at all in some areas😅. But that advice, I keep it without hesitation as it is very valuable to me.

As for continuing to deepen in decoration or chocolate techniques, I’m already working on it. I have proposed to finish courses that I have half finished and that will help me to grow. ❤

How beautiful, and I’m sure it’s delicious. And what a nice touch for your niece. That a simple bubble wrap has become a mold and a tool is genius, hats off!

@beatriztorijagmail-com Thanks Bea. The truth is that it came out very rich but it was a lot of work although it was worth it. It’s been a while now.

@loles-mhotmail-com I understand you perfectly… sometimes I prepare something very very elaborate and I love it, and it’s worth it. But at the same time I wonder if I will do it again because of all the work involved 🤣🤣 I don’t know if it happens to you

This is more than a cake, it’s a story told in chocolate and love. The honeycomb detail, the height, the inspiration… it’s all so beautifully personal. Pilar is lucky to have someone who puts so much heart into their creations. ❤
