      Pipirrana from Jaen “My way”.

It is a typical dish of my land, a simple and fresh salad for hot days. There are many versions depending on the area, but basically it is tomato, bell pepper, cucumber, boiled egg, olives, tuna, spring onion, garlic, salt, vinegar and a good olive oil.

My grandmother made it a lot, I remember my grandfather sitting at the table dipping bread, soup goes soup comes, with a face full of satisfaction and saying how good it was. How many times I have eaten it with them, now when I make it it is inevitable to remember those happy days🥰.

Today I have prepared it my way, without cucumber and accompanied with a whole wheat sesame bagel to which I have added pesto alla Calabrese, anchovies and mix of dried flowers.

I think my grandmother was smiling at me from heaven today and I’m sure my grandfather would have liked my version🙌.

what a beautiful memory and what a special way to pay tribute to your grandparents! I loved how you reinterpreted the pipirrana with a personal and modern touch, without losing its essence. The presentation looks spectacular, and those rosquilletas with pesto and dried flowers give a very creative and full of affection air to the dish. 💛

have you tried making this version with any homemade preserves or a different type of tuna? I’d love to know how you adapt the ingredients according to what you have on hand. Un abracito.☺️

@sussan_scoolinaryteam Thanks Sussan. It’s the first time I version it.
I always make it as she taught me but yesterday I had those roquilletas that I bought for the first time and I wanted to try them with the pipirrana.

You can use many things but we like it like this. Sometimes I put black olives, which is what is usually used and mackerel instead of tuna. Either way it is delicious.

If you have a good canned tomato, I use it in pieces. Use it with all the liquid it has and the rest to your taste. It is a simple recipe and for when you are in a hurry it is great 😉.

@loles-mhotmail-com How nice, Maloles! I love how you respect your grandmother’s original recipe and, at the same time, allow yourself to experiment with small changes. That combination of tradition and spontaneity is what keeps a recipe alive. And you are absolutely right: simple things, when made with love, always taste delicious. ❤️

What a beautiful tribute to family and tradition. Your Pipirrana “your way” sounds absolutely heartfelt and delicious! ❤️ I love how you’ve made it your own while honoring those warm memories of your grandparents. The twist with the whole wheat sesame bagel and Calabrian pesto sounds incredible! Such a wonderful way to keep family flavors alive.

Me pareció re lindo
