Is it trendy to overcomplicate dishes?

We’re seeing more and more dishes with dozens of ingredients, complex techniques, and elaborate plating. But I have a question: Is a dish really better just because it’s more complex? I don’t think difficulty is always synonymous with quality. Sometimes, an excellent ingredient, a well-executed technique, and three or four well-combined ingredients can be far more exciting than a dish packed with elements. Creativity is important, but so is knowing when to stop. In cooking, less is often more. What do you think? Do you prefer simple, perfectly executed dishes, or complex creations that impress with their technique?
