Title: Life-giving Pan de Muerto (Bread of the Dead)

Course: Day of the Dead Mexican Cooking

When I was baking this bread this morning, my house smelled like on Three Kings Day, when I make the “Roscones de Reyes” that I share with my family and neighbors. So much so that I thought that the downstairs neighbor was going to come upstairs to claim her share…

This recipe from chef Paloma Ortiz, warms the soul just with its aroma. And it awakens all the senses when you try it. An enjoyment, no doubt.

I baked it very early in the morning to take a piece to my father-in-law, who really enjoys these things. I’ll just tell you that the hug he gave me still has me excited 😂😂

      I hope you like it!

Me encanta Carolina!!

      • Your post is as heartwarming as the bread itself. The way you describe the aroma—bridging Three Kings Day and Día de Muertos—feels like a beautiful fusion of memories and meaning. I can just picture your neighbor catching a whiff and floating upstairs like in a cartoon!
That early morning bake, the thoughtful delivery to your father-in-law, and the hug that still lingers… it’s all so tender. You’ve turned a recipe into a moment of connection, and that’s the magic of food at its finest.
Thank you for sharing this slice of your story. I can almost smell the orange blossom and sugar from here!
