Sometimes you don’t need a big set to tell a story, and you’re doing a great job! When you start with the gastronomic photography and you don’t have so many professional lighting equipment, the key is to make the most of the natural light and the firelight. A good light can enhance a photo… or ruin it.
A tip that helps me a lot and that I always apply to my photos is to use natural light. The best moments of the day to photograph the food with natural light are:
🔸 Winter and Estate (in comune)
The ideal light is the diffused, soft and side light.
This happens during:
Golden hour (ora dorata): because the light enters at a low angle, is warm, warm and soft and brings out the texture of the food without brightening the whites or over-saturating the colors.
Recommended times:Winter: before 10:00 a.m. and after 4:30 p.m
Summer: before 10:30 a.m. and after 6:00 p.m
Indoors:
Cerca finestre esposte a nord (nell’emisfero sud) o a sud (nell’emisfero nord), perché offrono luce indiretta e costante senza troppi cambiare. If it is midday and you have only strong light, put in front of the window a light shade or a diffuser in white fabric.
Better colors:
Internal outdoor Golden Hour stage with diffused natural light
Winter 7:00 – 8:00 / 16:30 – 17:30 8:00 – 11:00
Estate 5:30 – 6:30 / 18:00 – 19:00 7:00 – 10:30(These times may vary depending on your current position, but the ideal is to be picked at certain times of the day)
To avoid:
Dalle 11:00 alle 15:00 in qualsiasi stagione, perché:The light is too hard
Strong shadows are created
The reflections on piatti or bright foods blur the image
If you lose control of texture and colorWhat has tested you the most in this picture? Are you experimenting with natural or artificial light?
I would be very pleased to see how your path continues. Stai andando davvero nella direzione giusta! ✨Level:Scoolinary Team

🔸 Inverno e Estate (in comune)
Orari consigliati:
Inverno: prima delle 10:00 e dopo le 16:30
Estate: prima delle 10:30 e dopo le 18:00
Per interni:
Cerca finestre esposte a nord (nell’emisfero sud) o a sud (nell’emisfero nord), perché offrono luce indiretta e costante senza troppi cambi.
I riflessi su piatti o cibi lucidi bruciano l’immagine

The flower at the center of the flowers is a poetic detail 💐
And maybe reduce a little bit the elements on the background, so that the shadow concentrates more on the protagonist.
what is your goal with food photography? Are you looking to improve yourself for a personal project, a blog or just for the pleasure of experimenting?
✨Level:Scoolinary Team

You’re doing great! The brioches look beautiful and the table actually gives it a cozy, honest feel. It’s all part of the learning process, and you’re already showing a good eye for framing. Keep going!
