I had promised Lana @lanamihajlovic a celebratory dish… but more than that, what better than to open a debate?

Here I go: What I’m sharing with you today is a dish of ancas de rana (the hind legs of frogs). In Spain they are not very common, but they are eaten, in fact I know a restaurant where they are the star dish (it is in the town of Aranjuez, in Madrid). I honestly wouldn’t even know where to get them, I have never seen them in the market, although I’m sure they sell them somewhere.

A friend of mine brings them to me every time he goes to his town

Bea, you promised me a celebration dish… and you bring me frog legs?! 😂 I was expecting cake, glitter, maybe a firework (okay that’s my part🙃)… not Kermit’s cousins in garlic and oil! 🐸

You know what? I actually love frog legs! 💚 Most people get scared just hearing about them, but I had the chance to try them before and I totally get the hype.

I’ve never cooked them myself, so I’m watching your post like a student in the front row. Masterclass mood activated 👩‍🍳✨ I may not find frog legs at my market anytime soon, but I’ll happily take the spirit of this plate as my treat.
Also… you did promise me a celebration dish, and I must say, this is unexpectedly perfect. Bold, elegant, curious and a little rebellious. Just like you…just like our friendship. I’m weirdly proud. 💞

@lanamihajlovic tomorrow fireworks, later I promise cake and/or glitter… but today, frogs!!!!

The truth is that it is very simple to make. They are seasoned with salt and pepper, seasoned with a little garlic and parsley, coated with beaten egg and cooked fried. They are delicious.

Now I can’t get Gustavo out of my mind

@Beatriz Torija If we keep going like this, we won’t be able to stop thinking about a lot of things…chickens, fireworks at midnight, a unicorn, the world upside down, frogs…😂 My husband is definitely not going to sleep tonight because of your frogs…he’s afraid you’ve inspired me 😂😂

@lanamihajlovic ayyyyyyy!!!! 😬 the funniest thing of all is that now, where I live, in the countryside, next to a river and with a pond, there are lots and lots of frogs, at night they give us some concerts 😅… I adore them!

Thank you for bringing us this curious and well-executed preparation. Although I have never tasted frogs’ legs, your dish generates a lot of intrigue: the breading is very well executed, with that even browning and a texture that seems crispy but light. You can see the care in the frying, without excess fat.
And now tell us… what does the flavor resemble… closer to chicken, white fish… I can’t wait to find out! 👀
thanks for opening this tasty debate!

@beatriztorijagmail-com I agree with Sussan’s question. I’ll be honest: here in Buenos Aires -and I dare to say in Argentina- they are not a “usual” dish that you can order in a restaurant. I’m quite impressionable with preparations where it’s clear which animal is in front of me. Everything is different in a stew, for example.

Well, I’ve never tried them and they don’t call my attention. Yours look very good. Tell us a little more about their flavor.
