Today has been a sad day for me. I have spent the morning collecting food from the fridge and freezer that I have thrown away😔.

Yes, I who take advantage of every little bit of food that is left, today I have thrown away more than I could have imagined. I had elaborations made for new dishes that would come out between yesterday and today …But now none of that matters anymore.

We have been 21 hours without electricity because of the blackout that yesterday devastated Spain and Portugal.

In a world where everything is digital, something like this stops everything. We make incredible things, but when the power goes out, you can’t even do the basics.

We ate some leftovers from the day before and also canned food. Everything was cold because there is no gas in my kitchen.

I went to bed at 00:25 waiting to see if the light came on so I could at least charge my cell phone, which only had 5% battery. By candlelight and with an old battery-powered radio rescued from the trunk to be informed of what was happening. They said that the power supply would be back on between 4 and 10 hours (it went out at a little past noon).

I got up very early, the power was still out. I did not dare to open the refrigerator, let alone the freezer. The news was that the power was on all over Spain, but in my town it came on at 9:25 in the morning!

Even so, I feel lucky because I know that there are many people who have had a hard time and even today they were already talking about four deaths due to the blackout😔.

At the end of the day losing food, breaks in the router are things that can be fixed.

Conclusion : Are we prepared for this? The answer is NO

I hope my colleagues who also suffered this outage did not have serious problems 🙏.

Tomorrow I will post the dish I had prepared when this problem arose. And I will see your posts that I’m sure I missed a lot.

Dear Maloles, thank you for sharing with such sincerity what you experienced… I imagine it must have been hard to have to throw away that food you made with such care, even more so being someone who values every ingredient as you do. It’s really painful, and I understand how frustrating it must have been to see so much effort vanish because of something out of your control.

What I admire most about your post is the reflection you leave: in the midst of such a connected world, an outage like this reminds us how vulnerable we are, and how precious the basics are. I am very happy to know that, despite everything, you are well and that tomorrow you will share with us that dish you prepared with so much love. That’s also a way to lift yourself up.

Your story surely accompanies many who also went through the same thing, and raises awareness of how important it is to be prepared, yes, but also to sustain ourselves as a community when something like this happens.

how do you feel now that some of the chaos has passed. I’ll be happy to see your dish tomorrow, and we’re here to read you, support you, and keep cooking with soul, even on the toughest days.

A big hug and all my love to you, thank you for your strength and for being part of this community. ❤️

@undefined Thank you Sussan. Yes, we are not prepared for something like this but I think we have to be aware of it and try to put solution because as it is it would be good to have an emergency kit for what may happen. how do I feel? Well, I feel calmer and fortunate to have been with my family that day despite being cut off from the rest of the family. Thanking God because it could have been worse. i send you a big hug🤗🥰

Maloles, a big hug from Madrid. Where I am at home I will be back after midnight. As you say there are people who got the blackout in very bad conditions, and it hurts to have to throw away food… we are not prepared, I agree. But I have seen people get together, chat… face that bewilderment of not knowing how long it would last. And as I heard on the radio yesterday humanity is something especially in situations like this… wonderful. We must not stop betting on it. A big hug Maloles! and don’t be anxious, even a buttered bread must be a delicacy if it comes from your hands.

No tenemos remedio 😔

Thank you for sharing something so personal and painful. Reading your message touches deeply. In a community like ours, where every ingredient and preparation is so highly valued, losing all that work and effort hurts so much 😔.

It’s admirable that, even in the midst of such a frustrating situation, you have that empathetic look towards others and recognize your fortune within the chaos.
We are waiting for you with that dish when you are ready to share it 💛 And in the meantime, here we are, to read you, accompany you and celebrate every little step that follows.

@soldamiani Gracias Sol !

I understand you Maloles and I send you a big hug. It is very frustrating to have to throw away things that have been prepared with so much effort and love. We were 16 hours without electricity and telephone and I had to throw some things away. These things happen and I agree with you that we are not prepared for these situations. I’m sure that dish, although simple, was a delight coming from you

Your words truly touched me. I’m so sorry you had to go through such a difficult day. It’s heartbreaking to see all your effort and food lost, but your strength, awareness and empathy shine through. Thank you for sharing such a real and vulnerable moment, it reminds us how fragile our systems are and how important it is to support one another. Sending you a big hug and looking forward to seeing your next creation when you’re ready. 💞

I think my town must have been the last to get power back on. There was no power until 11:30 on Tuesday…23 hours!!!!!
Phone coverage did arrive at night, at 00:30 or so. In my house I didn’t even have water, because I depend on an electric pump.
Still, I feel lucky, I got caught teleworking, and in a town I think it’s easier than in the big cities.
I have also thrown some food out of the fridge, and I haven’t even got my hands on the freezer yet… because when the power came on I had so much work that I couldn’t stop.
Of course we are not prepared, I agree with you.
              A hug, Maloles

@beatriztorijagmail-com 23 hours and no water either Beatriz ??! You must have had a hard time then, I’m so sorry! The truth is that yes, in the villages it is easier to go through this even if at the time of solving the problem we are the last ones but in spite of everything we have to be thankful for what we have right ? A big hug 🤗
