Spiced vegan Gugelhupf with hazelnuts and raisins.

To take advantage of an oat milk that I had open, I tried again the Gugelhupf recipe but giving it another touch.

This time I wanted to make it with coconut sugar powdered sugar but seeing that I did not have enough I had to improvise so I completed with a little brown sugar, a little white sugar and a little sorbitol.

To give it a spicy touch I added cinnamon, turmeric, black pepper, nutmeg, ginger and cumin.

I also added some raisins and a few pieces of hazelnuts and to make it open in the center I put a line of margarine along its length.

I liked it very much, it was juicy and the raisins and hazelnuts combine very well with the spices.

That Gugelhupf sounds like it has autumn in every bite.

I really liked how you took advantage of what you had at home, improvising with different types of sugar is quite an art, and you still achieved a juicy result, that says a lot! 🙌🏻

The spicy touch with turmeric, cumin and ginger seemed super curious to me, you don’t usually see them together in a sweet cake, did you feel that one stood out more than the others or was it more of a balanced flavor?
A little tip if the sugar thing happens to you again: if you have oat flakes, you can finely grind them with a little more sugar and make a softer textured sugar that helps give structure and some sweetness without stealing the spotlight.

Thanks for sharing this tasty experiment, do you already have another flavor in mind for next time? I kept thinking how it would look with orange and cardamom… 🫶🏻

@Sussan Estela Olaya muchas gracias Sussan.

This Gugelhupf sounds like a cozy, spiced hug in cake form! 🌰🍇✨ Love how you improvised with the sugars—true kitchen creativity! And that blend of warming spices with raisins and hazelnuts must have filled the whole house with an irresistible aroma. That line of margarine for the perfect rise? Brilliant touch! A beautiful, plant-based twist on a classic. 🧡🍰
