Trompe l’oeil. Basil pot, chocolate and Italian tiramisu.

Since my mother is dependent, New Year’s Eve dinners are at my sister’s house. Each one of us cooks a dish and together we make the dinner. This is the dessert I prepared two years ago. I remember that my hands were stiff because of my rhizarthrosis problem and I couldn’t bend my thumbs. Despite all that I made 25 chocolate pots with Italian tiramisu inside.

The pot was formed in a cardboard cup where I was giving layers of chocolate. First you have to cut the edge of the glass and give a small cut on the edge so it does not cost to break the cardboard and unmold once the chocolate is hard (you have to remove the cardboard carefully to avoid breaking the pot) was a delicate process because I did not want to make the pot too thick to eat it well but not too thin because it would open holes to put the filling, the base was sponge cake dipped in coffee (more than one I had to fix) I think the pots I did them in two days 😅 The same day before filling them I “dipped” them in cocoa to give a more realistic touch to the pot.

For the soil I crushed oreo cookies from which I removed the inside that I then used with the mascarpone for the tiramisu. I reserved that “earth”.

And now I had to finish the inside of the pot with an Italian tiramisu that was to die for. I kept them in boxes in the fridge until it was time to take them to my sister’s house where moments before serving I finished them in her kitchen ( photo where you can see them all together)😊.

I planted fresh basil with the oreo soil. I put some ladybugs and tiny bees on the leaves. I sprinkled some “dirt” on the plate for realism. I served with shovel-shaped spoons and the magic was done…the garden was already planted !!!😍

You don’t know the look on my family’s face when I started handing out this trompe l’oeil. They had told me not to get too complicated with desserts or appetizers because of the hands issue. They were open-mouthed and I was happy to see them all😊.

The only regret I have is that with so much fuss (that table was a spectacle with so many people) I didn’t think of taking a picture of the inside. It was late and we had to eat them with the grapes (which I also made as I showed you a few days ago) and some cup cakes that I will show you tomorrow. I have pending this issue, any day I make one and I take away that thorn.

The spoon shovels I bought them in AliExpress😂

That year I also made the candles, and many more dishes. Quite a challenge despite my hands. I learned that if you want to, you can 😉.

        maloles, what an inspiring story!

This is the first time I’ve heard the term “trompe l’oeil” and I find it fascinating, especially seeing how amazing your creation was. That chocolate tiramisu pot not only looks delicious, it’s a true work of art.

What I admire most is how, despite the difficulties with your hands, you pulled off 25 pots with such detail and dedication. From the sponge cake base to the Oreo “dirt” and the scoop-shaped spoons, everything was designed to surprise and delight.
I think it’s beautiful how you transformed the challenge into an opportunity to create something so special. Undoubtedly, this dessert not only left a mark on your table, but also in the hearts of all who enjoyed it. You are an example that when you want it, you can do it, and I am sure that any day now you will get rid of that thorn and leave us speechless again with another perfect pot. Congratulations, artist! Thank you for delighting us with such a beautiful creation.♥️

@sussan_scoolinaryteam I can’t thank you enough for your words. I’m so glad you liked both my story and this trompe l’oeil. Didn’t you know that term? It is said of an illusion or trap where it deceives the eye to make believe what it is not. The truth is that I really enjoyed making it and also seeing how my family ate it surprised. It is a pleasure to share it with you❤
