Design: Shaped using decorative molds to create intricate patterns on the surface.
Consumption: Commonly enjoyed during religious celebrations such as Eid, Christmas, and Easter in the Middle East.
Kahk
Shape and filling: Can be plain or filled with dates, nuts, or malban (a type of Turkish delight). Often dusted with powdered sugar.
Dough: Generally made only with flour (no semolina), resulting in a softer and more uniform texture.
Design: Less decorative than maamoul, with subtle patterns or a smooth surface.
Consumption: Popular in Egypt, especially during Eid al-Fitr after Ramadan.
In summary, maamoul tends to be more intricate and crumbly, while kahk is simpler and softer. Both are delicious but differ slightly in their preparation and cultural symbolism.
