After living and working in Asia, Europe, and the United States, Kyle and his wife, Katina, opened SingleThread in December 2016: a restaurant, farm, and boutique hotel format located on a five-acre estate in Healdsburg, Sonoma County, California, USA.
Kyle Connaughton was head of R&D at The Fat Duck restaurant (UK), and worked for Michel Bras restaurants in Japan.
Kyle was also accompanied by Katina, who worked as a farmer in Hokkaido (Japan).
His time in Japan inspired him to seek excellence in hospitality, adopting the philosophy of 'omotenashi', a hospitality concept based on giving the diner more than they expect.
Before its inauguration, SingleThread was already being talked about. In 2015 it was mentioned by gastronomic website, Eater, as one of the most promising openings of 2016.
Within just 23 months of opening it was awarded three Michelin stars. In 2018 it won the Miele One To Watch Award at The World's 50 Best Restaurants, an award given to discoveries with great potential.
By 2022 it formed part of the prestigious World's 50 Best Restaurants list.
