Who is Dan Whalen?

I started my website The Food in my Beard in 2008 when I was trying to remember the things I cooked, so that I could make them even better when I had friends over.

After a year or so, the website took off and I became obsessed with coming up with new recipes for it.

I noticed people especially loved it when I combined two favorites into one new dish. Things like Lasagna meatloaf, breakfast ramen, or birria spring rolls. This type of mash-up, or fusion cooking was especially unpopular at that time, but now you see it everywhere!
I kept pushing myself to learn new techniques and get better at what I do. Now I have written 5 cookbooks, and have been on The Food Network, The Rachael Ray Show, The Today Show, and many others!
