Five days of a brutal fight with a virus ended quietly and turned into pneumonia.
For days, I had no appetite at all. I slept. A lot.
Sometimes a banana. Sometimes a glass of freshly squeezed orange and grapefruit juice. That was all my body could manage.
Today feels different.
For the first time, the fever that stubbornly climbed to 39°C finally dropped below 37°C. A small number on a thermometer, but a huge victory for a tired body. And then mother’s chicken soup arrived.
Not as a recipe.
As medicine.
That familiar, golden broth carried more than warmth. It carried care, memory, and the quiet wisdom that food can heal in ways science still struggles to fully explain. A spoonful at a time, it brought me back… gently, without rushing.Today is progress.
Not the finish line, but a turning point.
I still have days ahead before I can say I’m healthy again. But today reminded me why cooking matters. Why traditions endure. And why, sometimes, the most powerful dish is not the most complex one, but the one made with patience, time, and love.Mercedes Delgado de Miguel, Mercedes Minaya Palacios and Antonio Salvador Moreno Carretero7 Comments-

Me alegro mucho de que te hayas mejorado. No hay nada como una buena sopa caliente para curarte, y si es de tu madre, mucho mejor.
