      The Saturday Caesar Sandwich

Saturday is the day when even the simplest bites are given the chance to become a story. Saturday always carries a slower rhythm. As if the day itself is in no rush, unfolding gently, allowing the smallest things to be noticed… the sound of oil crackling in the pan, the scent of garlic mingling with lemon, the shadow falling across the table through the window.

In my kitchen that morning, everything began with the sauce, the Caesar dressing. Here, full-bodied mayonnaise met the tangy lightness of Greek yogurt. I added a teaspoon of Dijon mustard, sharp and precise like a word that cannot be taken back, and a few drops of Worcestershire sauce, always bringing an elusive depth. Lemon juice awakened everything, while freshly grated Parmesan left its mark of savory nobility. Finely minced garlic, salt, and black pepper rounded out this creamy whole, a quiet foundation for everything that was to follow.

The chicken went through its ritual in three steps. First in flour with smoked paprika, to capture a gentle earthy warmth. Then into beaten eggs with a pinch of salt, where every strand of meat was coated in sheen. And finally into a mixture of panko and regular breadcrumbs, enriched with dried parsley, oregano, garlic powder, and yet another layer of Parmesan, a crisp attire that would preserve the heat of the oil.

Saturday is the day when details are given more room than usual. A day when even a sandwich is eaten more slowly. When you can pause and listen to Parmesan blending with lemon, to lettuce crunching beneath your teeth. And right then, in that simplicity, an ordinary Caesar sandwich becomes a small Saturday celebration.
