      Between Spice and Silence

When the chicken touched the pan, the butter whispered its secrets into the meat, sealing them in with golden certainty. I had let the breast rest for a while in its marinade, and now, under the heat, it surrendered… firm and tender at the same time, carrying both strength and fragility.

Beside it, the sweet potato transformed, its soft body merging with cheese, becoming something in-between root and comfort. I topped it with red beans, dusted in Texas spices, as if the desert winds themselves had seasoned them. A spoonful of their sauce, deep and earthy, trailed across the plate like a story leaving its ink.

Pumpkin seeds offered their crunch, a reminder that nothing is ever fully soft, while a few leaves of arugula stretched upward, still alive, still wild. The plate became a meeting place… fire and soil, tenderness and resistance, the echo of the faraway and the intimacy of the home kitchen.

      • Lana, this is gorgeous—and also making me hungry. That buttery chicken sounds like it hit the pan with purpose, and the sweet potato-cheese-red bean combo? Total comfort vibes. Love the crunch from the pumpkin seeds too. You’ve got a way of making food feel like a story without trying too hard. Would happily sit down with that plate any day.

        Gran trabajo!!!!

@beatriztorijagmail-com Amiga mía 😍 muchas gracias!! If I’m “on fire,” it’s only because of friends like you cheering me on. 🔥 You just made me smile with that description. I can totally imagine you stealing those pumpkin seeds one by one 😂. And yes, the sauce was exactly that kind of “dip some bread” temptation (I may or may not have done it already 🙈). I’m so glad you noticed every little detail, it means a lot! 🥰
