      🌿My Greek Treasure: Olive Oil

I’ve never been a winter person. I live for the sun, the warmth, and the light. That’s why olive oil holds such a special place in my heart. For me, it’s not just food, it’s a way to bring the sun back into my kitchen, even when the cold winds of winter arrive. With every drop, I feel a trace of summer… a golden reminder that warmth and joy can be poured onto a plate.

During my recent stay in Greece, I was surrounded by olive trees. Some of them were more than 600 years old, silent guardians of history that had watched countless generations pass. Standing among them was humbling… their twisted trunks and silver-green leaves carried the weight of centuries, yet they still offered their fruit generously.

From those ancient trees to my own table, the journey of olive oil feels almost sacred. It connects people, landscapes, and time itself. Bringing back five liters of homemade Greek olive oil wasn’t just a souvenir, it was carrying home a piece of sunshine, a piece of history, and a piece of love.

For me, olive oil isn’t just an ingredient, it’s a way of life, a golden thread that ties together memories, meals, and cultures. Every drop carries the warmth of the Mediterranean sun, the patience of centuries-old trees, and the dedication of the families who care for them. I love how versatile it is… sometimes it becomes the soul of a simple salad, sometimes the quiet hero of slow-cooked dishes, and sometimes just a drizzle that elevates bread to poetry. Olive oil is, quite simply, passion bottled up.

@mercedesminayapalaciosgmail-com Olive oil is very expensive in Serbia, and even more expensive in Croatia. That’s why I’m happy when I can secure supplies 😁 Also, I have to go to Slovenia to get pumpkin oil. Then I’m ready for winter. 😂

        • Lana, your words capture olive oil as so much more than an ingredient — you’ve bottled sunshine, history, and love all in one. I can almost feel the warmth of those ancient Greek groves in every drop you describe.

@judyrusselllive-com-au Thank you so much for your kind words. It’s amazing how one drop can bring back the light of summer or the wisdom of centuries-old trees.

I’m curious, do you prefer the bold, peppery kind of olive oil, or the softer, milder type?

@soldamiani Haha, no feta this time, it’s easy enough to find the real Greek one here too. 😉 But I did bring back plenty of flavored salts and Greek spice blends… little treasures to keep the taste of Greece alive in my kitchen.
