Outside, it was an ordinary April, neither spring nor winter, but that in-between space where one is more likely to remember all the springs that have passed and all the winters that still linger somewhere in the bones. In the kitchen, the smell of beans mixed with time, with the silence of home, and with the quiet awareness that no one would come unannounced today, yet still, food was being prepared for someone.

Alongside the beans stood proudly the Šopska salad — with tomatoes that smelled of sun that still remembers the fields, cucumbers that crisped softly under the knife, peppers roasted on the stove, and cheese grated from the heart.

On the table, a feast without pretense. In the air, the scent of home. In their bellies, gratitude. She thought how everything needed for happiness could fit into a simple meal — beans, Šopska salad, and enough love to share it. It may not be much, but in those small things, the whole world is contained.

Esas alubias huelen a hogar. A una mesa compartida, al calor de la familia.

This is the kind of post you don’t just see — you taste.
The beans, the Šopska, the writing… they all simmer together.
You’ve served a plate that’s as flavorful in words as it is in food.
Bravo — now we’re hungry and inspired. 😌🍽️

Lana, what a beautiful thing you shared! There’s something truly powerful in how you captured that moment where time seems to pause between seasons and turns into pure memory and feeling.

I can’t stop thinking about that image of the tomatoes that “smelled like sunlight”, how did you make something so simple sound so deep? I feel like even the grated cheese had a story to tell.

And that Šopska salad… What a poetic way to present such a humble, vibrant dish! Did you draw inspiration from a particular memory when you created that scene? I’m curious to know if that meal was for someone special, or if it was just a way to celebrate yourself with that tenderness.

You know what it made me think of? That sometimes we cook like we’re writing a letter ,not knowing if anyone will ever read it… but we still pour our whole heart into it anyway. Do you ever feel that way?

Thank you for sharing it with the community and for nourishing not only our eyes with your stunning photos but also our hearts with your beautiful stories.❤️

@Sussan Estela Olaya Dear Sussan, your comment truly touched me… I’ve read it several times, and each time, the smile it brings lasts longer than I expect. Thank you for all those warm words – you really made my day.

The tomatoes that “smell like sunlight” are indeed from a memory, from a kitchen in the South, where tomatoes aren’t sliced with a knife but torn apart with fingers, while the sunlight rests gently on your shoulder through a wooden window.

And yes, I completely feel what you wrote – cooking like writing a letter without an address. Maybe it’s precisely because we don’t know who will “read” it that we try to leave our heart in every bite.

Thank you for reading between the lines and for weaving your own words like a soft thread into my little story.

A hug from my kitchen to your soul. ❤️🤗

Ahhh!!! Esos guisos calentitos en esos días de primavera en los que el frío se resiste a huir son pura maravilla. Tu plato de alubias se parece mucho a nuestra ‘fabada’. La Šopska parece la compañera perfecta 🤩

@Beatriz Torija Bea, you know you’re my favorite companion through the seasons—you always recognize the soul of a dish. ❤️

That moment when spring still can’t decide whether to be winter or summer, so it treats us to something warm…This little ‘Balkan fabada’ of mine knows you’d especially love it. 🥰
