The smell of moussaka filled the apartment, warm and rich, promising a moment of respite. Weary steps grew lighter upon entering the kitchen, where plates were already waiting and wine was slowly being poured into glasses.
There was no need for unnecessary words—the sound of a spoon cutting through the layers was enough. The first bite, the one that makes you close your eyes for a moment as warmth spreads through the body. Then that quiet sigh, just a hint of satisfaction, and a glance across the table, brief but deep enough to say everything.
Sometimes home was in words, sometimes in silence, and sometimes, like now, in a bite that brings comfort. Moussaka was on the plate, but also in everything that connects
us.

I see you use potatoes. Does it include a layer of eggplant? I’d love to know all the ingredients you used—tell me everything! 😄1-

@Sol Damiani This is a classic moussaka with minced meat (fried with onions) and potatoes, topped with eggs, milk and sour cream. Also, in the spring I often make it with zucchini and I also like Greek moussaka with eggplant. ☺️

@Sol Damiani There are several variations of moussaka. This is perhaps the most traditional and the most common that is prepared in the ex-Yugoslavia countries.
I love moussaka…the last time I came back from Rwanda, when my mother-in-law asked me what I wanted her to cook for me when I got home, my answer was Moussaka! 😂
