My second attempt in plating with limited resource 😅 I found this (incomplete) recipe of Salmon Crispy Rice Salad on Instagram and decided to try it out. Looks a little quiet on the plate. Was thinking if I add white edible flower it would speak a little more (too bad the plants haven’t grown yet!). Any ideas to make it a bit more stand out?

It’s great to see you getting confident with plating using what you have on hand!
Your presentation has a very promising foundation: there’s nice color contrast, identifiable ingredients, and a clear intention to structure the dish. I agree with you—a white edible flower or some voluminous herbs like dill or microgreens could add that extra visual expression you’re aiming for. You could also try adding a brush of purée or sauce at the base to give it a more vibrant frame without overwhelming it.

If you’re interested in continuing to grow in this area, here are three courses we offer on the platform that can really help boost your technique and creativity when it comes to plating:

Can you imagine how this salad would look if served on a smaller plate or one with irregular edges? Sometimes, changing the canvas completely shifts the perception.

Keep creating and experimenting—you’re definitely on the right track! 🍽️✨

@Sussan Estela Olaya thank you for the ideas! I was also thinking about microgreens but hesitated because there would be too many greens. I‘m on the plating course and learned about different colours on a plate. Still confused on what colours more should I add when some of them are already there.. Yes, I agree the canvas would shift the perception completely. Time to invest on various plates, I guess 😅

Thank you, Cecilia, for sharing your process with such openness and ease 🙌🏼
I love seeing how you’re integrating what you’ve learned from the course and reflecting on your creative choices. The fact that you’re thinking about microgreens and color harmony already shows a growing aesthetic sensitivity.

It’s completely normal to have doubts in the beginning about how much to add without overwhelming the plate. A helpful way to approach it is to think of visual balance like a conversation: if you already have warm tones and greens, could a small accent in a complementary or contrasting color elevate the dish without shouting? Sometimes just one touch is enough to shift the whole energy.

And yes switching the plate can be a game-changer! You don’t need a huge collection to start with; even a couple of unique pieces can offer lots of creative possibilities.

Keep exploring, observing, and trusting your instincts. You’re definitely on a very promising path 🌱✨
