Last weekend, we had the honor of hosting a family from southern Serbia, which turned into a wonderful cultural and culinary experience! The southern regions of our country are rich in unique culinary traditions, and I was especially happy to learn from aunt how to make authentic Baranica – an old-fashioned pie, something between a flatbread and cornbread, with homemade cheese as an essential ingredient.
Serbian cuisine is a true treasure trove of flavors and cultures, with influences that vary from north to south – while the north features Hungarian and German specialties, the south embraces Turkish and traditional Serbian recipes, just like this one. With my favorite homemade cheese that aunt brought, we made Baranica, a true little masterpiece of tradition and taste.
I share with you my very first Baranica. I’m proud of this blend of old customs and homemade cooking!

Cómo echaba de menos tus historias, Lana. Unas veces por divertidas, otras por emocionantes, y otras, como hoy, porque suponen una auténtica inmersión cultural en Serbia.

@soldamiani Thank you so much! Baranica truly carries generations of love and tradition. In our family, the cheese is often wrapped in a clean cloth and left to mature in cool, humid cellars. It’s incredible how that simple method brings out such rich, complex flavors. I am definitely a cheese lover. 🧀
