Hi everyone! Do you like guacamole? It’s not very common in my country. Imagine—I didn’t eat avocado for almost my entire life until a couple of years ago. Now, I’m a real avocado fan!

This time, we couldn’t find tortilla chips, so I toasted some bread and rubbed it with fresh garlic.
I prefer spreading the garlic on the bread rather than mixing it with the guacamole because it changes the flavor too much. I love my guacamole with red onion and fresh lemon juice.

Do you have a secret recipe to share for making extra special guacamole next time? 😊

Here in my country, it’s quite common to eat avocado. In fact, at home, we used to have an avocado tree planted by my grandparents that lasted almost 35 years. But, as all good things come to an end, it stopped producing fruit, and we had to say goodbye to it.
Each country has its own version of guacamole, but I always try to make a recipe as close as possible to the traditional Mexican one. My guacamole includes tomato, onion, chili, avocado, cilantro, lime, and salt, and nothing else. I know there are versions that include olive oil, garlic, paprika, etc., but I prefer to keep it as authentic as possible.

Like you, there have been times when I couldn’t find tortilla chips, so I make them myself. Although it takes more time, it’s definitely worth it.
I make them with wheat flour (even though the original ones are made with corn flour), water, salt, and a little bit of oil. I measure the ingredients “by feel” until I get a smooth, workable dough. Then, I cut the dough into triangles and fry them.

That was the easiest and quickest solution when I didn’t have the typical tortilla chips.

On the platform, we have this blog about the different variations of guacamole by country. It’s in Spanish, but you can use the page translator to read it without any issues.

That guacamole looks absolutely delicious! 😋 It’s funny how tastes change, isn’t it? I can’t imagine not having avocados in my life! 🥑 And your idea of toasted bread with garlic sounds like the perfect accompaniment. 👌 I usually add a touch of cumin to my guacamole for a bit of warmth. Have you ever tried using round thin zucchini slices instead of bread? They’re a great alternative and add a lovely freshness! 😉 And gluten free! Please do try it (it pairs perfectly with hummus, too) and let me know what you think.
